As a Wellness Coach for Women, I often get asked how often should you weigh yourself ?  When trying to lose weight and you’re on a weight loss or reduction program, you should definitely know your starting weight so you can track how much weight you lose over a set period of time. You may be wondering how often you should weigh yourself or if you should weigh yourself daily.

The answer will vary greatly from person to person on any weight loss/reduction plan because some prefer to weigh in daily where others may choose to only weigh themselves once a week or even once a month.  Weigh yourself based on your goals and what makes you feel best.

There are pros and cons for each weigh in method. When weighing daily you can easily track your weight day by day by seeing how you go up and down of the scale.

However, this can be frustrating for some because body weight naturally fluctuates. You could literally weigh five pounds more tomorrow than you did today and then the next day you could be back at your normal weight.

Weighing in daily isn’t good for someone who is easily frustrated or one who puts too much emphasis on the scale.

Weekly weigh ins are good because you can consistently track your weight week by week. You can compare your weight loss over time with whatever foods you have eaten during that week if you track those too.

This can help you learn which foods work best for you while you are trying to lose weight. Weighing in weekly can also have a negative affect on those who cheat on their diet all week long and then try to starve themselves a day or two before weigh in day.

When weighing in weekly try to stay consistent with whatever food and exercise plan you are utilizing to avoid disappointment when you jump on the scale each week.

If you are on a weight loss/reduction program, by weighing yourself monthly you can track your weight on a month by month basis and avoid daily or weekly disappointments on days and weeks that no weight loss occurs.

Weighing monthly can help you focus on the weight loss as a whole and not just a little here and a little there. You will never notice the ups and downs if you stay on track with your plan.

However some need the strictness of a weekly or daily weigh in to help keep them on track because waiting a whole month is too long for them. They can’t stay focused and fall into traps of not exercising or using moderation with eating.

They feel that they have all month to get it together and after three to four weeks in a row of not staying on track it can result in little or no weight loss.

If you are wondering “How often should I weigh myself?” think about your weight loss plan and how well you stick to it. Evaluate the pros and cons of weighing daily, weekly and monthly before making your decision.

Just how often do you weigh yourself and do you find yourself being consistent with the weight loss process?  Please comment below!

Thanks! :-)
